Armchair activites

Considering I’ve not been ‘out’ I’ve had quite a productive couple of days really.  My new knee (and to a lesser degree my ‘old’ hip) are still quite painful and its very dis-heartening 😦 although I am pleased to say my stump has healed and is no longer painful (one down two to go). I’ve re-visited www.bonesmart.com and some of the posts have reassured me just as they did pre- and post-op.  We humans are not so different – sometimes it pays to remember that.

However, internet shopping to the rescue! I’ve started my Christmas shopping from the comfort of my armchair whilst my lovely cleaner Claire is vacuuming  around me – why do I wish it was me doing the vacuuming?? I’ve also managed to ‘pin-down’ my son and make a start on his accounts for last year – if you knew him you would realise that this is no mean feat!

I have a follow-up appointment with my surgeon in 3 weeks and it can’t come quickly enough.  I know I could bring the appointment forward but I don’t want to ‘give in’ too quickly, I feel the more information I can give him about my mobility and level of pain the better answer I will get. I need to get past this lack of trust in my own instincts its not like me at all.

Back to the shopping – I have the obligatory list which I have yet to look at! but I have ordered some lovely handmade cookies from www.thecookiecollaboration.co.uk.

I’m busy doing nothing…

image

Apologies, I know I have been ‘absent’ for a few days but I’ve been a little pre-occupied with a big yellow circle in the sky, imagewarm blue water and views to die for! You guessed- I’m on holiday and I must say my life motto of ‘fail to prepare, prepare to fail’ was never more true than now.  The mix-up with my mobility scooter before we left the UK was unfortunate, and meant a lot of last-minute organisation has actually worked in our favour. We were met at our hotel by Dave from Algarve Mobility Scooters who was so friendly, helpful and knowledgeable he quickly dispelled any worries and at half the price!  The scooter we have hired has become my best friend.  It allows me to join in the walks and sightseeing I previously had to miss.   It’s fair to say that I will not be joining in the cliff-top walk planned for later this week, especially after ‘crashing’ into a table at a cafe this lunch-time image– but I can live with that! The only mini-moan I want to have is about the pavements in Portugal they are all pebbled or rough-tiled so at times it’s like sitting on a pneumatic drill!

My knee has been a bit sore, I know its because my stump is also sore (that happens in heat sometimes) which means I unconsciously place more pressure on the other leg – I need to remember that at the moment it can’t take extra pressure! On the plus side my knee scar is really benefitting from some exposure to the sun, and my skin us responding the sun-cream, oh and I nearly forgot I had my first long soak in the bath since my op – the bath in our room is quite low to the floor making it manageable getting myself in and out, I’ve really missed being able to bathe but I need to find a way solve this problem at home.

Anyway time to love you and leave you-I feel a pre-dinner drink coming on 🙂image

a ‘Me Day’

image

Everyone needs one and today was mine! I’ve been to the hairdressers, treated myself to lunch and bought a few ‘necessities’ for my holiday.  However the most radical thing is the fact I haven’t really thought about anyone else today, neither have I talked or moaned about my surgery, or knee pain – definitely a first not just in the past 10 weeks but ever!

On arriving home from my indulgent day I opened an email from a company specialising in mobility aids – normally such emails would go straight into the trash but something caught my eye. It was an article about a mobility scooter that folds to the size of a suitcase. It is expensive to buy and coupled with the fact I have always resisted using a wheelchair/scooter I closed the email. Then I thought about our forthcoming holiday which we are both looking forward to. I thought about my very limited walking capacity and my husbands love of walking and exploring – decision made hire one take it with us and if it works for us I’ll look at getting one of my own. Look at the web-site http://www.luggiescooters.com/ airlines don’t charge a luggage tariff and I will be able to ‘explore’ as well.

My hair looks rather nice as well 🙂
